City Stompers

Location: Leeds
Price from: £1250

About the Act

City Stompers were conceived out of love for old community string bands with the ability to play at any event.

City Stompers play 40+ private events and weddings a year, as well as many public shows and festivals. Since 2011, these have included supporting Steven Seagal at The O2 Academy Leeds, Beauvais Blues Festival in France, Scarborough Blues Festival, Tour De France, Tour De Yorkshire, Leeds International Beer Festival, Tramlines Sheffield and have headlined the acoustic stage at Colne Blues Festival two years in a row (Europe's Largest Blues Festival).

City Stompers play the vintage blues, ragtime, swing and folk music that was popular in America in the 1920s through 1950s, but with the energy and feel of modern rock and roll music. The band swaps instruments and all three members sing lead, but essentially is a trio of guitar, double bass and drums or washboard. Tom Attah is on guitar, double bass and vocals, Martyn Roper is on double bass, guitar and vocals and Jack Amblin plays the drums, washboard and does vocals too.

The band is set up to be like a traditional 1920s community string band, able to play any occasion by having a huge repertoire of songs in many styles and picking the right stuff as the night goes on. Be it a raucous set of well known songs at a wedding that gets the dance floor full, a seated show to a listening audience in a theatre or blues club, or a completely acoustic performance in a small space or on the street.

Testimonials:

Thank you so much for playing at our wedding at Chatsworth House on May 24th. We really excited for you to be our band and you didn’t let us down. All the songs you played created a great energy and atmosphere, which reflected our entire wedding day. Not only did you do a great job with the music but you were a great bunch of guys too. Once again thank you for making our day special.

James & Leanna

Very impressed with the feedback from your performance. You were the highlight of the night by all accounts! I would very much like to work together again in the future.

Mark Andrews, MD of Carnival Of Curiosities

First and foremost, thanks for the other night, the gig was great and everyone loved it! Wasn’t sure if everyone would be into it (not that we cared it was what we wanted!!) but everyone genuinely did and really did top off a great day. Thanks again and hope to see you guys at a gig when we are back from honeymoon.

The Incredible Sheikhs

Location: Leeds
Price from: Enquire for details

About the Act

An original good-time band: gentrified pop in 1920s fashion.

These chaps were top-drawer... before they mysteriously disappeared during an unsanctioned experiment into telekinetic time travel! Serendipitously, the entire Incredible Sheikhs line-up was safely conveyed to the twenty-first century, re-emerging with that same hedonistic boom.

Striking out with hotsy-totsy, modern vigour, they elegantly escort carnivals of wild, youthful creatures into the decade of excess and innovation. Their contagious zeal bewitches even the most unwilling wallflower, rekindling the spirit of the Ritz and champagne fizz of the flappers. An esteemed musical fraternity, they offer the hottest modern hits with precision and humour, ushering in 20s style with gentrified contemporary pop. Towering above the dance hall assembly, celebrity socialite Lord Acton and his roaring band, The Incredible Sheikhs, exemplify the eccentricity and sparkle of 1920s British style and rhythm.

Sugar

Location:
Price from: Enquire for details

About the Act

As three accomplished and stylistically individual solo artists, Sugar are able to deliver sophisticated harmonies and arrangements of 1940’s swing, 90’s RnB and Calypso with a playful sassiness and infectious charm. Their performances are always vibrant and dynamic and have the ability to captivate any audience..

In February 2013,Sugar were spotted by Terry Wogan’s producer and were invited to perform live on his Radio 2 show, Weekend Wogan. The girls were delighted and quickly set about writing Sir Terry his very own jingle, which he continued to play weekly on his show and as he puts it, ‘it never ceases to make him smile’. Six weeks after their first appearance, they returned to Weekend Wogan to close the season with a goodbye medley. Thanks to Terry’s enthusiasm for the ladies, their popularity has grown and they have since performed at The Chelsea Flower Show and appeared on BBC One’s prime time TV slot, The One Show, where they sang live to an audience of 5 million viewers. It was then not long before they found themselves performing at none other than The Royal Albert Hall supporting Charles Aznavour and also as the house band for BBC1s ‘Children In Need’ live show. If the past is anything to go by these 3 lovely ladies have a very bright future ahead of them!

The Charleston Chaps! Playing popular hits from the roaring 1920s. Enjoy this visit to an era of wonderful nonsense, quirky original music and cheerful entertainment. Let's misbehave!

Kidnapped by aliens from the Savoy ballroom in 1929, the Charleston Charlies reappeared on the streets of Manchester in 2007 having aged not one jot, still playing their and quirky 1920's hits. The Charleston Chaps are:

Oscar Bernhardt (singer, banjo and trumpet)

Chester Walmsley ( drums)

The Magnificent Eddie Barnstormer (piano)

Burley Martell (double bass)

Milton Colehill (sax and clarinet)

Love us or laugh at us, you'll have to dance to us! Our affectionate 1920's pastiche delights and delects its way through an era of prohibition , speakeasies and mob violence, when the jitterbug was scandalous, flappers bobbed their hair and raised their skirts and a damn good time was to be had by the reckless and young at heart.

Strike up the band! Everything is hotsy totsy now!

One of the best wedding bands available for hire in the UK! One of the best wedding bands based in Manchester and London!

(The writer takes no responsibility for the truth of historical facts, nor do names bear resemblance to other than fictitious characters but the music is damn good!)
